The Satellite Of Love is a livestream [[performance]] of one or two hours of continuous music and soundscape synchronized by Ableton Link, Midi and Din Clock. Each section should blend from the preceding section.

The Livestream is divided into sections of 10 minutes. A participant may have one of more slots allotted either as a solo or a jam project.

A participant will probably want to provide 20% to 50% new material for their slot if regular.
This could be as little as 5 minutes of material each month.

A participant that does not compose or produce may wish to rehearse and partake in the jamming sections.

We go for a post modern take on genres since this is not a club, club music has a limited place tho' not inconsequential by any means. We are not averse to house and techno but without the biofeedback from an audience the overall vibe is identical to any other genre. So instead we divide music along tempi. So one stream we might start with a reggae beat at 100 bpm and move towards a Rock N Roll groove at 80 bpm, followed by a non tempoed ambient soundscape before finishing with some house goodness at 120bpm.

Live [[performance]] streamed over the Internet usually using the open source Open Broadcasting System ([[OBS]]).

Our performances are made up of sets broken down into solo and group jams. (see The [[Satellite Of Love]] Livestreams and open rehearsals and the archived [[The Concept Mixtape]] Streams on Twitter.)

== Guidelines ==
* We recommend a small cheap laptop to be used as a single use machine for OBS without visual effects, to be used as a safety net against buffer underruns, latency etc. If visual effects on a second obs machine should lag for whatever reason the audio remains intact.
* We mainly use Luma key as opposed to green screen to create of main visual effects.
* We use OBS layers to add scrolling text for the News tickertapes.
* The discipline is in creating a LIVE environment, a minimum set of virtual instruments are used to ensure CPU is kept smooth with no dropouts latency.
* A controller per virtual instrument is recommended.
* We use mostly outboard gear: drum machines and synths, the Ableton Push, Ovox for vocal effects (with everyone wearing headphones- since we mostly can't sing) and Wavey Lines, a Eurorack-based glitch machine.

== Info ==

A livestream is one hour of continuous music and soundscape synchronized by Ableton Link, Midi and Din Clock. Each section should blend into the proceeding section.

The Livestream is divided into sections of 10 minutes. A participant may have one of more slots allotted either as a solo or a jam project.

A participant will probably want to provide 20% to 50% new material for their slot if regular.
This could be as little as 5 minutes of material each month.

A participant that does not compose or produce may wish to rehearse and partake in the jamming sections.

This is an electronic event. There is a 24 channel digital mixer.

We currently can't cater for acoustic instruments or singing easily. This can develop in time.
Before hand, we'll chat with the participant about what they might bring and how they will set up.

== House rules ==
Vegan

Coffee and Tea available. If you bring your own milk, you'd be expected to take it home with you.

Bring a packed lunch if you want to eat. There's a small fridge.

There's a rooftop area for breaks.

Alcohol-free.

- We are keeping the in-person gatherings small
- Alcohol dispenser in foyer
- A spot for people to keep their personal mug if they want

RSVP and don't show up?
- Is it covid-related? Thanks! Please keep yourself and everyone healthy.

What is music? What does it offer us? What can we offer it? We will attempt to draw on a less eurocentric approach, combining traditional historical musicoilogy and anthrolopolical muscicollogy into one branch (the other being systemic musicology - music theory etc).
We will investigate the subversive musicology of modern urban communities and sonic warfare, travel guides for soundscapers and music catchers and a potential blueprint for mentors,musicians and composers combatting the destructive anti-creative force of modern capitalism.
